Hi, I'm Eric Friedenthal. You maybe remember me from such films as "How Many Clothespins Can I Fit On My Face?". Well, I'm here to share some secret information about that film that you might not know. There were actually 17 clothespins, not 16. Let's take a look. The seventeenth clothespin. I'm Eric Friedenthal, I'll see you next time.

I'm Eric Friedenthal and we're here to answer the question: How many Eric-Friedenthals does it take to unscrew a light bulb?

I'm still waiting for more Eric-Friedenthals but they're not here, so the answer is: one. One Eric Friedenthal can unscrew one light bulb.

Hi, I'm Eric Friedenthal. You may remember me from such comedy films as: "How Many Clothespins Fit On My Face?" and "How Many Eric-Friedenthals Will Take to Unscrew a Light Bulb?". And for those of you who don't remember, that's how many Eric-Friedenthals it took to unscrew a light bulb. This is gonna hurt. Aaaargh! Ok, we're done.

This here, this here's a cut, you definitely ++++ out.

Today's question is: "how many dent-de-lions will Claus have to pluck out of his garden next year?". Let's begin.

Ya hemos visto antes la diferencia entre MUCH y MANY, ahora vamos a ver:
- HOW MUCH = ¿cuánto? (singular)
- HOW MANY = ¿cuántos? (plural)

Este vídeo de presentación es difícil de entender, pero no te preocupes, lee la transcripción y verás cómo sí entiendes algo. Estas son las preguntas:

- How many clothespins can I fit on my face? = ¿cuántos alfileres de la ropa puedo encajarme en la cara?
- How many Eric-Friedenthals does it take to unscrew a light bulb? = ¿cuántos Eric-Friedenthals se necesitan para desenroscar una bombilla?
How many very very heavy, very compact, very very strong concrete blocks can I pick up on one arm? = ¿cuántos bloques de cemento muy muy pesados, muy compactos y muy muy fuertes puedo levantar en un brazo?

Explanations

First, let's remember the use of MUCH and MANY:

MUCH/MANY, A LOT OF

COUNTABLE NOUNS (C)--> MANY
UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS (U)--> MUCH
COUNTABLE / UNCOUNTABLE NOUNS --> A LOT OF
C- I have many books
U- I don't have much money
C/U- I have a lot of books. I don't have a lot of money

MUCH/MANY --> negative and interrogative sentences
A LOT OF --> affirmative, negative and interrogative sentences
+ I have a lot of books. I have a lot of money
- I don't have many books. I don't have a lot of books
- I don't have much money. I don't have a lot of money
? Do you have many books? Do you have a lot of books?
? Do you have much money? Do you have a lot of money
--> You can also use MANY in affirmatives (I have many friends) but not usually.
CONCLUSION: You can always use A LOT OF (but be careful if you want to use MUCH or MANY)

Now it is easy to learn the difference between HOW MUCH and HOW MANY

HOW MUCH? --> To ask for quantities (uncountable nouns)
- How much water do you want?
- How much time have we got?

HOW MANY --> To ask for numbers (countable nouns)
- How many apples do you want?
- How many books are there in the library?

We can also say that we use HOW MUCH? for singular nouns and HOW MANY for plurals.

PRICE

You can also use HOW MUCH? to ask for the price of something:

- How much is that book?  - It's 2 dollars
