Empieza leyendo las explicaciones y luego mira este vídeo y para aprender a usar el pasado del verbo TO BE (ser / estar).

Fíjate que la forma inglesa del pasado corresponde a dos formas españolas. Nosotros preferimos una u otra forma según el contexto, pero en inglés es más sencillo porque sólo tienen una.

- I was a waiter --> Yo fui camarero / Yo era camarero.
- You were in Barcelona yesterday --> Ayer estuviste/estabas en Barcelona
- He was playing tennis --> estaba/estuvo jugando al tenis
- There was a tree in my garden --> había/hubo un árbol en mi jardín

Explanations

The verb TO BE is very irregular. This is the past tense:


I WAS
You WERE
He, she, it WAS
We WERE
You WERE
They WERE

I am a waiter --> I was a waiter
You are in Salamanca today --> You were in Barcelona yesterday
He is playing tennis --> He was playing tennis
There is a tree in my garden --> There was a tree in my garden
