The book "Tao Te King" is an ancient Chinese book also transcribed as Tao Te Ching or Dao De Jing, written by Lao-Tse (or Laozi, or Lao-tzu) around the 6th century BC. This book is central in Chinese religion, art and culture. Not only Taoism (based on this book), but also Confucianism and Chinese Buddhism have roots into this book. This philosophy is probably the opposite to Western philosophy, so both points of view can complement each other. If you read this, understand the text but don't understand the meaning, then you have a lot to learn from the Tao.
