- Why would you want to marry me for, anyhow?
- So I can kiss you any time I want.

- You can get your stubborn ass down here and give me a divorce.
- You show up here after 7 years without so much as a "Hey, there, Jake, remember me... your wife?"

- Shut up, Bear!
- Shut up, Bryant!
- What happened to Bear?
- He died. You weren't here.

- Hold on. What are you doing with all that cash saved up?
- Give me the ++++
- And since when did you quit the tyre factory? You're not doing anything illegal, are you, Jake?!
- Maybe I am. So what? I don't ask you about your boyfriend, you keep your nose out of my life. Deal?
- Who told you?
- Honey, just 'cause I talk slow doesn't mean I'm stupid.
- Look, Jake, nobody finds their soul mate when they're 10 years old.
- Yeah, I guess.
- I mean, where's the fun in that, right?

- I thought you'd be gone.

- Look, Mel... I signed your papers.
- Jake, I never meant to hurt you or anybody else, for that matter. And I just came out here to say thank you.
- You might want to find yourself a place out of the way.
- You can't just leave!
- Sure I can. You want to come?
- Where you goin'?
- I want to show you somethin'.
- I can't.
- Can't or won't?
- Both.
- The girl I knew used to be fearless.
- The girl you knew didn't have a life.
- Well, I guess you better get on with it, then. Come on, Bryant!

- You know, he went up there.
- Who? Jake? When?
- About a year after you left. He don't know I know, but Clinton let it slip once.
- Jake was in New York?
- He told Clinton he'd never seen anything like it. He realized straight off he'd need more than an apology to win you back. He needed to conquer the world first. He's been tryin' ever since.
- That's why he kept sending the papers back.
- Yeah.

- You owe me a dance.
- Nice dress. Where's your husband?
- I'm lookin' at him. Why didn't you tell me you came to New York?
- I needed to make somethin' of myself.
- About done?
- What is it about you Southern girls? You can't make the right decisions 'til you tried all the wrong ones?
- At least I fight for what I want.
- Oh, what do you want, Melanie? I don't even think you know.
- You're the first boy I ever kissed, Jake, and I want you to be the last.

- Fine! Have it your way, you stubborn ass!
- Whatcha want to be married to me for, anyhow?
- So I can kiss you any time I want.

ANYHOW= Anyway.

SO I CAN KISS YOU= This SO is not expressing a consequence, it is expressing a purpose. When it is purpuse we usually use SO THAT + Subject + Can/may, but "That" is often left out:
- I need a key to open this door = I need a key SO I CAN open this door = ... so that I can open...
- I want to marry you to kiss you every day = I want to marry you so I can kiss you every day = ...so that I can kiss you...
The purpose construction with SO (THAT) is much more common when the subjects of the two sentences is different:
- Peter works on Saturdays to get more money (PETER works / PETER gets more money)
- Peter works on Saturdays so that his wife can have more money (PETER works / HIS WIFE gets more money)

YOUR STUBBORN ASS= (rude) You, stubborn boy.

SHOW UP= Appear; arrive.

WITHOUT SO MUCH AS...= With not even a...

SHUT UP= Be quite.

HOLD ON= Wait.

CASH= (coll.) Money (cash or bank notes or whatever)

QUIT= If you quit a job, you stop working there because you decide to.

SO WHAT?= Who cares? It's not your business!

YOU KEEP YOUR NOSE OUT OF MY LIFE= Stop trying to get information about my life or trying to influence it. Actually, this sentence is part of a colloquial conditional sentence type one, made with this structure: present + , + present:
- You touch my bike again, I will tell my daddy = If you touch my bike again I will tell my daddy.

DEAL?= We say this after proposing something of the kind of: I'll do this for you and you'll do this for me. In this context, it means "do you agree with my proposal?"

HONEY= /hʌnɪ/ The sweet golden liquid produced by bees, but we use this word as a loving word to address someone we love (used esp. between lovers and with children)

'CAUSE= (coll.) Because.

LOOK= (in this context) Listen; pay attention to what I'm going to say.

SOUL MATE= The love of your life, the person who is perfect for you.

I GUESS= (coll.) I suppose.

I MEAN= We use this phrase when we want to explain something we just said in a different way, or when we want to give more information about the same idea so it is easier to understand.

I SIGNED YOUR PAPERS= In the States (at least in some states) both husband and wife must agree to get a divorce, so if one of them wants a divorce but the other one doesn't want to sign the divorce papers, they can't divorce. That's why she is trying so hard to get him signing the divorce papers, because she wants to marry another man, but he didn't want to. Finally, he says he has signed the papers.

I NEVER MEANT TO HURT YOU= I had no intention to make you suffer.

FOR THAT MATTER= Concerning that, so far as that is concerned, if we are talking about that.

FIND YOURSELF A PLACE OUT OF THE WAY= Move to one side because you are blocking my way.

SURE I CAN= Of course I can.

WHERE YOU GOIN'?= (coll. bad grammar) Where are you going?

CAN'T OR WON'T?= You can't or you just don't want to do it?

FEARLESS= Having no fear, brave (the ending -Less = without)

DIDN'T HAVE A LIFE= If you don't have a life you don't have exciting experiences or do interesting things or have a good social life. Maybe because you are always working or because you are too shy or too busy.

YOU BETTER= You'd better = You had better = You should.

GET ON WITH IT= Continue doing what you were doing or procede to do what you wanted to do.

HE WENT UP THERE= He went to New York (if you are in the country or in a small town and go to a big city, you can say "go up")

LET IT SLIP= Told a secret unintentionally during a conversation.

REALIZED= To realize is to come to a mental conclusion.

STRAIGHT OFF= At once; immediately.

TO WIN YOU BACK= To make you love him again.

EVER SINCE= Always, since that moment until now.

YOU OWN ME A DANCE= You have to dance with me because you promised.

I'M LOOKING AT HIM= He had finally signed the divorce papers (as he told her before), but in the end she didn't sign them, so he thought they were divorce and she had married her new boyfriend, but in fact they were not divorced, so he was still her husband. That's why she says that she is looking at her husband, because he is still her husband.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT YOU?= What's wrong with you?

FINE!= Ok.

HAVE IT YOUR WAY= Do what you want; do things the way you prefer.

STUBBORN ASS= (rude) An insult for somebody who is very stubborn (when they have an idea or want to do something, it's impossible to make them change their mind). Using YOU before an insult makes it stronger.

WHATCHA= (coll.) What do you... for? = Why do you...?
