A cover taken from the original 1989 hit by Chris Isaak Wicked Game.

With I'm a Victim of this Song, Pipilotti Rist takes up the concept of the "cover" version, in which one performer does a version of another's song, and gives it her own twist. Starting with music from Chris Isaak's hit single Wicked Game, she adds her own sung and screamed versions of the lyrics, accompanied by effects-manipulated, diaristic video images. The result is an art-world "cover" of a popular artifact, with a woman's voice reinterpreting the male original, and a vivid illustration of the consumer's claim to own and interpret media images.

Pipilotti Rist is an artist who was born in Switzerland. Her focus is video and audio installations because there is room in them for everything: painting, technology, music, language, lousy, flowing pictures, poetry, commotion, premonition of death, friendliness... like a compact handbag. Her opinion is: "Art task is to contribute to evolution, to encourage the mind, to guarantee a detached view of social changes, to conjure up positive energies, to create sensuousness, to reconcile reason and instinct, to research possibilities and to destroy cliches and prejudices".

She took the original song titled "Wicked Game" by Chriss Isaak, and versionated it precisely for using it in combination with images and other stuff and create a videoinstallation. She arose the concept of cover version, introducing new effects and manipulations. She is considered an authentic art provoker.

The world was on fire
And no one could save me but you
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed I´d meet somebody like you
I never dreamed I´d knew somebody like you

No, I don´t want to fall in love
(This live is only gonna break your heart)
No I don´t want to fall in love
(This love is only gonna break your heart)
With you
with you

What a wicked game to play
to make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you

What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way
What a wicked thing to do
to make me dream of you

and I don´t wanna fall in love
(This love is only gonna break your heart)
No, I don't wanna fall in love
(This love is only gonna break your heart)
with you

World was on fire
And no one could save me but you
Strange what desire will make foolish people do
I never dreamed that I´d meet somebody like you
I never dreamed that I´d knew somebody like you

No I don´t wanna fall in love
(This love is only gonna break your heart)
No I don´t wanna fall in love
(This love is only gonna break your heart)

When love -and more over, fatal love- takes you over, and the desire is much more powerful than anything else, you loose your control and sensitivity, despite the fact that you could be addressed to a wicked and dangerous game, from which it´s extremelly difficult to go out or give up. No matter how fascinating a certain person could be for you, the painful love prompts is stronger than love itself, and that´s shouted from the very deep part of a silent and raging heart, which screams in behalf of your unconcious mind: I don´t want to fall in love with you...
