A traditional finger-play song.

As you're singing, you flex the corresponding baby's finger repeatedly (starting with the thumb) and when the old man comes "rolling home", you bend the finger back down and start with the next one.

For older children you do it as a hand-play instead of finger-play. You can see the hand-play version of this song here: This old man -handplay.

This old man, he played one,
He played knick-knack on my drum.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played two,
He played knick-knack on my shoe.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played three,
He played knick-knack on my knee.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played four,
He played knick-knack on my door.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.

This old man, he played five,
He played knick-knack on my hive.
With a knick-knack, paddy whack,
Give a dog a bone,
This old man came rolling home.
