This song by Desiree is already a classic, a timeless song, and it's all true: love may be difficult to find, love may be difficult to retain, but love will save your day.

You can sing to the karaoke video here.

Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
Stand up and be counted
Don't be ashamed to cry

You gotta be
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Herald what your mother said
Readin' the books your father read
Try to solve the puzzles in your own sweet time
Some may have more cash than you
Others take a different view
My oh my heh, hey

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Don't ask no questions, it goes on without you
Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace
The world keeps on spinning
You can't stop it, if you try to
This time it's danger staring you in the face

Oh oh oh Remember
Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
My oh my heh, hey, hey

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
All I know, all I know, love will save the day

Got to be bold. Got to be bad
Got to be wise. don't ever say it
Got to be hard. Not too, too hard
All I know is, love will save the day

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool, you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together
Yeah

You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser, you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough, you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool...

YOUR DAY UNFOLDS= Your day begins and continues. When something unfolds, it starts happening.

CHALLENGE WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS= The future has something prepare for you, but don’t accept it if you don’t like it, challenge it (fight against it) and change your future.

TRY AND KEEP= The verb TRY can be followed by infinitive with to, but it is often followed by AND too, especially in the imperative:
- Try to open the window with this = Try and open the window with this.

THEY MAY CAUSE YOU TEARS= Maybe they’ll make you cry.

GO AHEAD= Come on!

RELEASE= liberate, let go.

BE COUNTED= Don’t be just a nobody, let people know you’re important.

YOU GOTTA BE= You’ve got to be. Notice the pronunciation of T between vowels. This pronunciation (like the Spanish R) is colloquial English in Britain, and mandatory in America.

BOLD= Brave, courageous. Pronounced /bəʊld/

TOUGH= Hard, not weak. Pronounced /tʌf/

COOL= If you are cool, you control your emotions and stay calm.

YOU GOTTA STAY TOGETHER= If you stay together you don’t break down, you control your emotions and don’t get depressed or too nervous. If you lose control people can tell you "please, put yourself together".

LOVE WILL SAVE THE DAY= Love will make your life happy, in spite of all your problems.

HERALD= Announce, proclaim, say aloud. The two lines about your mother and your father mean that you must pay attention to what they taught you about life, because they’ve lived more and are wiser.

CASH= Money. It literally means "coins and banknotes (AmE bills)", as opposed to cheques (AmE checks), credit cards, etc. But it is often used simply as a synonym for "money", like in this song.

MY OH MY= It’s just an expression people use when something goes wrong or when you think something is mistaken.

DON’T ASK NO QUESTIONS= A double negative. Not correct in standard English, but sometimes used in colloquial English.

GOES ON= Continues

TO STAND THE PACE= To keep the rhythm, to advance at the same speed.

SPINNING= To spin is to rotate rapidly. The expression "The world keeps on spinning" means "life goes on"

STARING= To stare is to look intensely.

This song is about love and about life, but it's mostly about you and the way you must choose to live your life. Life is difficult, but you can face it up and make decisions, otherwise, life will go on without asking your opinion and you'll float downstream instead of swimming in the direction you want to. People may press you in many ways, but you have to stand up and choose your own way. Love may be hard and make you suffer, but love is what will make your life worth living. So basically, the message of this song is: you're in a tough life, but be strong and look for love, that's what will bring life into this darkness.
