Don't Worry (Kim Appleby)

A hit from the 80's (almost). "Don't Worry" reached number two on the UK Singles Chart in November 1990 and entered the Top 40 throughout Europe.

In no time
You'll be fine
Don't worry.

Don't worry...
Don't worry...

You met a guy, he said he was your lover.
He said he loved you like no other.
Told you that you were the only one.
How could he say that when he's having so much fun?

Now he says you're making him sad.
How he says that when he treats you so bad?
Now he's gone, left you for another.
You're not the first you now discover.

Don't you cry, you'll get by. you'll be back
on your feet. In no time you'll be fine, don't worry.
You got hurt, you got hurt, you're not the first.
Your heart aches, it won't last, it will pass. Don't worry.

Don't waste your time thinking of the past.
Love like that, it could never last, girl.
Don't you know things happen for a reason?
It's meant to be just like the change of seasons.
You're not to blame, don't you feel so bad.
He was the one who was making you sad.
Now he's gone, left you for another.
It's for the best you will discover.

Don't you cry, you'll get by. You'll be back
on your feet in no time. You'll be fine, don't worry.
You got hurt, you got hurt, you're not the first.
Your heart aches, it won't last, it will pass, don't worry.
Don't worry, don't worry

Standing all on my own,
Love will never be the same without him.
Trying hard to be strong.
How can I go on? Now he's gone.

Don't worry…
don't worry…

Don't you cry, you'll get by. You'll be back
on your feet in no time. You'll be fine, don't worry.
You got hurt, you got hurt, you're not the first.
Your heart aches, it won't last, it will pass, don't worry.

Don't you cry, you'll get by. You'll be back
on your feet in no time. You'll be fine, don't worry.
You got hurt, you got hurt, you're not the first.
Your heart aches, it won't last, it will pass, don't worry.

IN NO TIME= Very soon.

HE LOVED YOU LIKE NO OTHER= He loved you more than anybody in the world.

TOLD YOU= He told you. (in colloquial English sometimes the subject is dropped when it is obvious)

YOU WERE THE ONLY ONE= He only loved you and nobody else.

HOW COULD HE SAY THAT...= It is incredible that he says that; he's so cheeky.

HE'S HAVING SO MUCH FUN= He's having romantic or sexual affairs with many girls.

LEFT YOU FOR ANOTHER= He left you and now he is with another girl.

YOU'RE NOT THE FIRST YOU NOW DISCOVER= Now you discover that you are not the first.

GET BY= Survive; go on with your life; forget about him and find another love.

YOU'LL BE BACK ON YOUR FEET= You will be happy and strong again, ready to fight for your life and find love again.

YOU GOT HURT (coll. passive voice)= You were hurt, he hurt you.

YOU GOT HEARD= He heard you? I heard you? God heard you? I don't know who the subject is supposed to be but the idea is that she expressed her feelings and somebody heard and undertstood them.

LAST= If something lasts, it takes time. If something won't last, it will eventually end, it won't be like that forever.

PASS= If something passes, it finishes and is forgotten.

LOVE LIKE THAT= It should be "a love like that".

YOU'RE NOT TO BLAME= It's not your fault.

DON'T YOU FEEL= Don't feel. The imperative doesn't use a subject, but if we want to be emphatic we use YOU:
- Be quiet, please.
- You be quiet!!!

IT'S FOR THE BEST YOU WILL DISCOVER= You will discover it is for the best. If something is for the best, it is a bad thing but it will have a good consequence in the future.

ALL ON MY OWN= Completely alone.

TRYING HARD= Trying a lot, making a big effort.

The song is anbout the process of getting over being heartbroken.

A woman is in love with a man, he makes false promises and makes her believe he loves her and he will be with her forever, but later he leaves her and goes after another woman.

Now she feels totally devastated.

In the song, a friend of her tells her that she mustn't worry, that everything will be ok and she will be happy again, and that losing him was the best thing for her (because he was the wrong man).

In the song we have the friend talking to the heartbroken woman, but at the end we have a paragraph where it is the sad woman talking:

Standing all on my own
Love will never be the same without him
trying hard to be strong
How can I go on. Now he's gone
